This product is not reccommended. Within the first 8 pictures the battery was exhausted. Picture quality also left a lot to be desired. I would definitely suggest a different selection for a low to mid level solution for a digital camera.

Customer Review: greatly disappointed
I purchased this camera as a gift for my son a year ago. He has had little occasion to use it. He estimates it’s been used 4 times. Now as he attempts to use it over the holidays, the shutter won’t open and the lens won’t come forward as the camera is turned on. It is two weeks out of the manufacturer warranty. Of course, neither Amazon or Samsung wish to accept responsibility now that it’s out of warranty. They wish me to pay more to have a camera repaired that’s had very limited use. I certainly don’t wish to purchase any more Samsung products and must admit I’m very disappointed with Amazon’s response, considering how many items I’ve purchased through them.

I picked up the camera about 2.5 hours ago and already it’s doing the freezing other people mention. The sales person said I could easily take 600+ pictures before the battery died and it’s been less than 100. It’s really hard to figure out how to take a decent picture. It’s either way too bright and you can’t see anything or it’s way too dark and you can’t see anything.

Sorry but I couldn’t recommend this to anyone. I’m hoping to find a better camera when I return this one.

Customer Review: Amazing little camera!
I am involved in short-term mission trips through our church here in the Atlanta area. I used to have a big clunky Kodak digital camera but one month before my first mission trip to the Dominican Republic, I decided I needed to upgrade my camera so I could get some great pictures to document this special week in the life of my kids and me and not have to carry around that big camera.

I went to my local Wal-Mart and started looking at cameras. The Samsung Digimax S500 immediately caught my eye as it was pocket sized but still had a lot of nice features, more than I would need on a normal trip.

I took some time to go through the manual, learning all about the basic camera operations. The trip was a huge success! I bought a 2 Gig SD card and took so many pictures and video clips by the 4th day that I had to upload them to a laptop to make room for more!

Even after my second mission trip in as many years, the picture quality continues to blow me away for such a small, easy to operate point-and-shoot!

And the video capability…wow! My two children are in the high school marching band. I have taken numerous video clips of their performances for the past two years. The sound and image quality of the clips are great. It is nice not to have to carry around a video camera, as well now. The only thing you have to know is that if you zoom in while video taping, the sound stops until you let go of the zoom button…a small price to pay for such an awesome camera.

I rode my Harley from Atlanta to Canada and back…4900 miles last summer. The camera fit right into one of my windshield pouches. I searched for a few days for a camera that had high resolution with image stabilization, decent video capture, usb chargeable and a built in media player. The media player function was important because it allows me to travel light with a great camera and a way to watch movies and listen to music.
I have had this camera for over a month in Europe and have had great results. If you know how to use the settings you can take amazing pictures in quick succession. Don’t worry about battery power, you can take many pictures and video and still have enough power to listen to music for a few hours.
The wide angel setting and wise shot setting are great when combined with Photoshop CS3s photomerge option to produce seamless panoramic pictures. On the optical side, this camera performs well considering that it is fully enclosed in the cameras body. Speaking about the camera’s body it is very durable because its real metal and stylish, not some cheap plastic shell.
CONCLUSION
If you want a very portable camera with extra media features and a capable camera this is it. If you are looking for a very small camera just to take pictures and thats it try the Canon Elf 1000.

This is a good camera especially for the price. Image quality does suffer a bit from the price and I don’t like the proprietary cord connections. The charger is proprietary and the data cable to download the pictures is. In this day and age, I think most if not all digital cameras should use standard mini USB cables. Nevertheless, I give it a 4 out of 5.

Customer Review: Great first camera for a budding photographer
I bought this camera as a Christmas present for my 7 year old son, who has shown an interest in photography and had taken some very interesting shots with my digital camera while visiting my parents during the summer. He has shown promise with his artistic eye for detail, content, and placement and I wanted to encourage him without investing too much money in his newfound hobby. He loves this camera! It is lightweight, easy to use, has features that makes it easy for him to be even more creative with the effects, and the pictures are decent. He has taken a few shots that he really liked, so I had them printed as 8″x10″ prints and framed for his wall. He’s going on his first Caribbean cruise this spring and looking forward to filling his 2G memory card with photos and memories to have printed and make a phtoto coffee table book for me and his grandparents. Though it’s not what I’d purchase for my 16 year old son or either of my teenaged stepdaughters, who have a keener eye for picture quality and are a bit more responsible, I think it’s a great first camera for a child who is truly interested in photography and has shown that they have a knack for finding beauty through the lens.
