Great camera for the price
This camera is excellent. It is the 3rd digital I’ve owned and I’ve enjoyed it very much. It’s compact and full of features. You MUST, however, use super alkeline batteries because it eats the normal ones up fast. The batteries made for digital cameras do much better and are worth the price. The camera has a video feature that outshines any other camera I’ve seen on the market. I would highly recommend this product as a good value for little money you pay for it

Customer Review: One of the worst designed camera I’ve ever had - I had to return it.
Having owned several Olympus digital cameras and also used Nikon, Sony & Canon cameras, using this Samsung was an awful experience. It has so many odd features you have to wonder if anyone on their design team ever thought to try out their competition’s cameras. Here are the problems I have with this camera.
1. Wrist Strap. For starters the wrist strap holder is a little metal bar that sticks out from the camera into your right hand when using the camera. Every other camera I’ve owned has it recessed so you don’t feel it. At least they should have made it easy to remove so that it doesn’t stick into your hand.
2. Batteries. Figuring out how to get the battery in was annoying. I’ve never had to look at the directions to put a battery in any of the hundreds of battery-operated devices we own. The description said this camera uses AA batteries - it does not. And I could not find anywhere to buy a spare battery. I gave this camera a try only because I thought it would run on AAs and I need to have spares with me because I use my camera to photograh my work in client homes.
3. Touch screen. At first I this was a neat idea. In reality, you have to use a STYLUS PEN to operate it!!! I tried using my finger nails but it did operate properly. When I’m taking pictures the last thing I want to do is worry about finding the stylus pen and hold on it. There isn’t even a place in the camera to stick the pen like Palm pilots & Treos have.
4. Transfering Photos to PC. It took about a half hour before we finally got to actually take pictures with. I’ve never had to look at an instruction book for a camera to get to the point of taking the first picture. Once we finally did get some taken getting to the PC was a pain in the neck. My husband is a computer engineer and he had trouble! Turns out you can’t move the pix directly to your computer with a USB cable from the camera’s memory like you can with every other camera out there. You can’t even do it from the disk. You have to install their software and use their software to make the transfer!! They plaster the camera instructions with warnings that you will lose your photos if you don’t use their software. This is ridiculous. You should be able to easily & quickly transfer the photos to ANY PC anywhere with that disk. Even worse, you have to transfer the photos from camera memory to the disk, then you can move it to your computer.
5. Picture Quality. As dumb as all these design errors are, I might have lived with it and not returned the camera if the picture quality were at least as good as my 200$ Olympus. The photos all had a kind of dark and grainy or fuzzy quality to them that I’m just not used to. Kind of like how printed photos taken with ISO 400 or 800 film look. I use photos of my work on my website (see www.neatandsimple.com) and in e-books. The pictures dont’ have to be perfect, but they need to at least look good enough to see the work clearly. That’s means I need a camera that takes good indoor shots. The wide angle lens feature is awesome, but there are a lot more choices out there as of October 1, 2007. Olympus Olympus Stylus FE-290 7MP Digital Camera with 4x Wide Angle Optical Zoom (Black)just came out with theirs at about the same price so I’m going to try that one.

Samsung Digimax S630 6MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Advanced Shake Reduction Zoom (Green)

I got this camera as a gift. When I first used it it seemed OK. Easy to use, good quality photos. It did eat up the batteries that came with it, but I was prepared for that. It is VERY slow at capturing the picture you want to take. I don’t recommend this camera if you plan on taking pics of scenery either.

Customer Review: DA 70mm vs. FA 77mm
A lot of people have a tough time choosing between DA 70mm Limited and the FA 77mm Limited. Both lenses have their merits, but I ended up going with the DA 70mm for a few reasons…
DA 70mm pros:
- Much faster autofocus.
- Much less CA (chromatic aberrations) and purple fringing.
- Much cheaper.
- Still works on film bodies, but you need a body that supports aperture controls.
FA 77mm pros:
- About 1 stop faster (f/1.8 vs f/2.4).
- Has an aperture ring so it works on all Pentax 35mm film bodies as well as digital.
- General consensus that the bokeh is better.
- Slightly longer reach.
Both lenses are sharp and render images beautifully, so as you can see, it really depends on what you want from the lens.
Since I wanted this lens for candid portraits, I needed the much faster autofocus capabilities. I also figured that I wouldn’t shoot at f/1.8 much anyways since I find it difficult to work with such a small depth of field when shooting portraits. While most people find the FA 77mm’s bokeh to be better, the 70mm still produces very pleasing bokeh. It’s just different.
All in all, the DA 70mm seemed like a much better deal to me and I don’t regret buying it over the FA 77mm at all.

Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC IF Macro Lens for Pentax and Samsung Digital SLR Cameras
June 21, 2008 on 1:14 am | In Samsung Digital Camera, Samsung Lens | No Comments Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC IF Macro Lens for Pentax and Samsung Digital SLR Cameras Good quality Versatile Lens
I purchased this lens for my Pentax K10D, and it works quite well. The zoom range is just right for most applications and the semi macro performance is handy. Performance wise it is very sharp, low CA, low vignetting and low distortions. At 17mm the performance sags a little with some distortion and when wide open some vignetting. In most cases I haven’t had a problem. At 17mm, however, the distortion gets pronounced at distances less than 3 feet (1 meter), so take a few steps back if possible. Aluminum construction is nice.
Overall highly recommended!

June 17, 2008 on 3:16 am | In Samsung Digital Camera | No Comments Samsung Digimax NV20 12MP Digital Camera with 3x Advanced Shake Reduction Optical Zoom (Black) Samsung NV20, part of the second generation of NV series, takes both design and functionality to a whole new level. The NV20 is equipped with 12.1 mega pixel CCD and a Schneider-Kreuznach lens, known for outstanding quality and delivering crystal-clear images with every shot, as well as a 3x optical and a 5x digital zoom. Built-in Face Recognition AF&AE can identify up to nine faces in a picture and adjust complexion accordingly, while Red-eye Fix automatically removes any annoying red-eye effect. Auto Contrast Balance compensates for brightness and Auto Shake Reduction (ASR) compensates for a shaky hand on the part of the photographer. And now navigating complicated menu systems is a thing of the past! The brilliant new Smart Touch user interface makes accessing menu functions and reviewing your images an absolute pleasure with a unique touch-ensitive system gives you easy, intuitive control over the camera, as the large 2.5″ LCD gives you a great view every time. Innovative Smart Touch User Interface Face Recognition AF & AE with Red Eye Fix Bright 2.5 color TFT LCD screen 20MB Internal Memory - accepts SD/SDHC/MMC memory cards (up to 4 GB) MPEG-4 (AVI) recording capability Supports ISO 3200 (at 3M) for clarity in imperfect lighting USB 2.0 port - can connect to Windows and Mac
Nice
I bought this as an effort to modernize my 2 megapixel Olympus. The menu system is a huge leap in ease of usability and is one of this cameras greatest assets. I didn’t even need to crack open the manual to start. Ergonomics are good, maybe a hair on the small side for me. Everything is easy and intuitive to reach. I expected a significant difference in picture quality, but the largest thing I normally print out is 5″x7″ so I have not really been able to take advantage of the MP increase. I have not noticed a difference in detail even using the higher resolution. Zoom is no better than then older Olympus if as good…a little disappointing, but I haven’t seen a point and shoot with a zoom I like. Flash too is minimal typical of point and shoots. Battery life is so-s0 but I have purchased a couple extras which you should have in your camera bag anyway. There is a little metal tab which apparently holds the battery in place that does not retract to get the battery out. This is easily bent. You need a toothpick and a third hand to remove the battery and replace it without bending the latch. Obviously a design issue. Interestingly, the SD card adjacent to the battery has no need for such a flimsy latch. I have had some auto focus issues, but have not tinkered with all the different settings. It has the typical delay while the camera performs this task. On a couple of occasions, seemingly it couldn’t make up it’s mind determining the proper focus. Red eye reduction is excellent. The software that comes with it is okay, nothing too fancy but it does the job. It also includes a program that allows you to take pictures of business cards and it attempts to transfer these into a database. Two major problems with this. One, the database is proprietary. Two, it was only able to correctly do this on less than 5% of the samples I tested. You’re better off typing. Good idea, really poor implementation. Overall, I am happy with the camera, but probably would have been just as happy continuing with the older Olympus as my picture taking consists of snapping candid shots of the grandkids and stills for eBay.

Great for Study Abroad Trips
I searched for a few days for a camera that had high resolution with image stabilization, decent video capture, usb chargeable and a built in media player. The media player function was important because it allows me to travel light with a great camera and a way to watch movies and listen to music.
I have had this camera for over a month in Europe and have had great results. If you know how to use the settings you can take amazing pictures in quick succession. Don’t worry about battery power, you can take many pictures and video and still have enough power to listen to music for a few hours.
The wide angel setting and wise shot setting are great when combined with Photoshop CS3s photomerge option to produce seamless panoramic pictures. On the optical side, this camera performs well considering that it is fully enclosed in the cameras body. Speaking about the camera’s body it is very durable because its real metal and stylish, not some cheap plastic shell.
CONCLUSION
If you want a very portable camera with extra media features and a capable camera this is it. If you are looking for a very small camera just to take pictures and thats it try the Canon Elf 1000.
